The New Quilted Outerwear

Continuing a years-old trend towards more tailored quilted coats, A/W 2013-2014 has brought some of the most sport coat-styled outerwear to date and it continues to be one of the most interesting and welcome developments in men's cold-weather kit. Waterville's coats exemplify the segment; their Doran model is by all appearances a warm double-breasted jacket with patch pockets—even classic menswear touches like surgeon's cuffs are preserved.

Luxire, who can do pretty much anything, further refine the concept with more subtle quilting and finer wool flannels over Thermolite for warmth. Optionally a shorter length, replacement of patch with flap pockets and a very subtle square quilt produce a coat that reads almost like a windowpane jacket. Neat.
