The kick-ass $125 cotton suit

L.L.Bean Signature's sale includes one of our favourite cotton suits ever, The New Traditional Twill, at a tremendous out-of-season discount—$90 for the jacket, $35 for the trousers. This mostly-unlined summer suit has a flattering shape and lots of nice details like working cuff buttons and a small, high lapel notch up at the collarbone. We'd recommend this to just about anyone in need of a casual warm-weather suit, with a few pieces of advice:
  • Size down on the jacket. And not just if you're in-between sizes. If you are a true 40, order a 38.
  • Skip the navy option. From a distance it reads like a very dated shade of denim. Both of the khaki colours are great.
  • Get the trousers tailored. You WILL need to have the legs slimmed; they're quite baggy. Your tailor should charge you $30 or $40 for this. Still an outstanding deal.
