Mailbag: Anchor buttons on coats

Dave asks: "What does Unrefinery think of those big Navy buttons with the anchor on them that you find on coats? Personally those buttons have kept me from buying some otherwise cool stuff." Answer: Kitschy though they may seem, these things are OK on authentic peacoats, which are legitimately nautical in origin. They shouldn't be used anywhere else. That said, never let buttons stop you from buying a coat you otherwise like. Swapping out the buttons on a coat is just about the easiest modification you could possibly make; you can probably even do it yourself.
