How to wear undersized scarves

You might think that undersized scarves are pretty useless, given that about 72" is the minimum length to make a reasonable knot. But in fact a shorter lightweight scarf can serve both a practical and aesthetic purpose to those of us who like to wear a collarless knit under any sort of jacket. A summer scarf as short as around 40" is big enough to shield an expensive coat from a sweaty neck and vice versa, while adding a little touch of contrast or pattern, when wrapped as an inner layer and mostly tucked in. The key in this case is to not knot it in any way, shape or form.
