Glossary: shamburger

Shamburger: One of a number of bogus hamburger replacements found on vegetarians' barbecue grilles and in the shopping baskets of the kind of people who regale Whole Foods cashiers with the merits of hemp, colon cleanses and 12-day spiritual retreats in Peru. Answers the question "what could be more gross than ground-up cow?" with "WATER, SOY PROTEIN CONCENTRATE, WHEAT GLUTEN, CONTAINS LESS THAN 2% OF METHYLCELLULOSE, SALT, CARAMEL COLOR, DRIED ONIONS, YEAST EXTRACT, SESAME OIL, HYDROLYZED WHEAT PROTEIN, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR (NON-MEAT), DISODIUM GUANYLATE, DISODIUM INOSINATE."
